About this skill

What can this Bazi charting skill do for you?

Four Pillars of Destiny analysis is a skill that calculates a chart through conversation and interprets it with reference to classic texts on Chinese destiny analysis. It is for people who want to understand their Bazi and the direction of their fortunes. Simply answer a few questions about the birth information that applies to you. You don’t need to know the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches or look up a perpetual calendar yourself.

It collects your name, previous names, Gregorian or lunar birth date, birth time, gender, birthplace, and whether the person is living, in a set order, asking only one question at a time. Once all the information is collected, it summarizes it for you to confirm. After confirmation, it calculates the year, month, day, and hour pillars. It determines the month pillar according to the solar terms and the year pillar according to the Beginning of Spring, then uses the yin-yang polarity of the year stem and gender to determine the direction of the 10-year luck cycles and the age when they begin.

You’ll receive a Four Pillars chart showing the Heavenly Stems, Earthly Branches, Ten Gods, and hidden stems; a table matching 10-year luck cycles with ages; and an interpretation covering the Day Master’s strength, Ten Gods relationships, Five Elements balance, chart structure and its success or failure, and 10-year luck cycles and annual fortunes. At the end, it lists three to five key events you have already experienced for you to check against, then offers advice on career, finances, relationships, and health.

It’s suitable for people interested in traditional Chinese destiny analysis who want a systematic reading of their own or a family member’s chart, as well as anyone whose birth date is known and who wants to explore 10-year luck cycles and annual trends. If you can’t remember either your Gregorian or lunar birth date, it can’t calculate a chart and can only suggest checking your birth certificate or asking your family. If the birth time is uncertain, it only analyzes the six characters for the year, month, and day, without drawing conclusions about the hour pillar.

How is this different from other Bazi charting tools and general-purpose AI?

Free online charting tools are fast: enter a birth date and they instantly produce the Four Pillars, but their interpretations are usually quite brief. Beyond chart calculation, this skill analyzes the Day Master’s strength, climate-adjusting useful elements, and chart structure’s success or failure point by point according to texts such as Qiong Tong Bao Jian and Zi Ping Zhen Quan, and cites the source of each interpretation—so you can see how the conclusions were reached.

General-purpose AI can talk about almost anything and is flexible, but it usually won’t verify your birth information first or revisit and test its own judgments. This skill first summarizes your birth information and asks you to confirm it before casting the chart. At the end of the analysis, it also uses several events you’ve already experienced to calibrate the reading; if they don’t match, it revises the useful elements. That makes the interpretation more specific to you, rather than a template that could apply to anyone.

Calculating a Bazi chart by hand requires familiarity with the Heavenly Stems, Earthly Branches, and solar terms. This skill determines the month pillar by the solar terms, sets the year pillar according to the Beginning of Spring, and distinguishes the day pillar based on whether the birth time falls in the early or late Zi hour. If the birth date falls on a solar-term boundary, it also notes that two month pillars are possible. That makes chart calculation easier and less prone to errors.

Choose this skill if you want to see both the chart and the reasoning behind its interpretations. If you only want a quick auspicious-or-inauspicious verdict, or are just asking for fun, a general AI chat or online charting tool may be quicker.

Frequently asked questions about Bazi charting

9 questions

What information do I need to provide to calculate a Bazi chart?

You’ll need a name, Gregorian or lunar birth date, birth time, gender, and birthplace. You can also provide any previous names and when your name was changed. It will also confirm whether the person being analyzed is living. This information is summarized for you to check, and chart calculation begins only after you confirm it.

I only remember my lunar birth date. Can you still calculate my chart?

Yes. The chart can be calculated as long as either the Gregorian or lunar date is known. The month and year pillars are always converted according to the solar terms, regardless of leap months. It can only not calculate a chart if you can’t remember either date.

What if I don’t know my birth time?

You can leave it blank. If the birth time is unknown, Four Pillars of Destiny analysis marks the hour pillar as unknown and analyzes only the six characters of the year, month, and day pillars. It won’t infer matters associated with the hour pillar, such as children or later life. If you only remember an approximate time of day, such as “almost dark,” it can help match that to a specific Chinese double-hour.

Will it give definitive conclusions about my life?

No. It treats destiny analysis as traditional culture, focusing on the Day Master’s strength, the success or failure of the chart structure, and trends in 10-year luck cycles and annual fortunes. It reminds you that such readings are for reference only, and that life depends on your own efforts and choices. For health and financial matters, it advises relying on medical diagnosis and sound decision-making.

How are 10-year luck cycles and annual fortunes calculated?

The direction of the 10-year luck cycles is determined by the yin-yang polarity of the year stem and gender: men born in a yang year and women born in a yin year proceed forward; men born in a yin year and women born in a yang year proceed backward. The cycles are calculated from the month pillar. The starting age is determined by dividing the number of days from the birth date to the nearest “jie” solar term by three. Each 10-year luck cycle lasts ten years. Annual fortunes are assessed by comparing the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches of each year with the original chart and the current 10-year luck cycle.

How is this different from simply asking general-purpose AI?

General-purpose AI can discuss Bazi, but it usually won’t verify your birth information first or revisit its judgments. This skill summarizes the information for you to confirm, follows fixed classical sources for chart calculation and analysis, and then calibrates the interpretation against several events you’ve already experienced, making it more specific to you.

Can it calculate a chart for someone who has passed away?

Yes. If you say the person has passed away and provide the year of death, the analysis only calculates up to that year and does not continue projecting annual fortunes beyond it.

What does the analysis cover?

It includes a Four Pillars chart and a 10-year luck cycle table; the Day Master’s strength; Ten Gods and family relationships; Five Elements balance and favorable or useful elements; the success or failure of the chart structure; and trends in 10-year luck cycles and annual fortunes. It concludes with advice on career, finances, relationships, and health. Each section cites interpretations from classic texts and identifies their sources.

Will the chart be wrong if I was born on a solar-term boundary?

It won’t give just one answer without qualification. A solar-term boundary date may correspond to two possible month pillars, so it will point out both possibilities and provide a brief analysis of each. If you were born around the Beginning of Spring, it will also ask you to confirm the exact time to determine which year pillar applies.
