From one word — Anki cards with definitions and examples
Enter a word and CEFR level — the app generates definitions, parts of speech, and examples with cloze deletions, then adds the selected cards straight to AnkiDroid.
What this Anki card generator does for you
AnkiAI-Cards is a vocabulary learning app that turns a single word into ready-made cards for an Anki deck. It's built for people who keep a vocabulary deck in AnkiDroid and write a definition and examples for each word by hand.
You enter one word, and the app asks an AI model to break it down by parts of speech. Back come a definition, the same wording with a cloze deletion placed in it, and three usage examples — also with a cloze deletion in place of the target word. Parts of speech are listed in order: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions, pronouns, and others.
On the results screen, cards are grouped by part of speech: the definition is visible right away, and examples expand on tap. Anything you don't want is unticked; what you keep goes to the editor, where you edit the text and can manually wrap any word or phrase in an Anki cloze. After that, each card is added straight to the AnkiDroid deck — with no manual import.
What you end up with is ready cards in your deck: a word, a definition, and examples with cloze deletions that Anki shows as cloze exercises. The word's language, the CEFR level (A1–C2), the deck name, and the AI model are chosen in the settings. The app works with one word at a time — you can't upload a word list or a whole text.
How this differs from other ways of making Anki cards
An ordinary AI chat can explain what a word means, but you assemble the card structure yourself: you ask for the definition separately, the examples separately, and place the cloze deletions separately. Here the structure is predefined — parts of speech in order, a definition and three examples for each, cloze deletions in the Anki format. One request yields a consistent set of cards, not text you then have to pick apart.
Other card generators usually hand you a file to import: as text, a table, or a deck you have to download. AnkiAI-Cards sends the selected cards straight to the AnkiDroid deck through its API, so the import step disappears.
Edits don't require a new request to the model either: in the editor you change the definition and examples directly in the text, and you turn the target word into a cloze by selecting it. The wording stays yours, not generated.
Choose the app if you keep a vocabulary deck in AnkiDroid and want to get card drafts quickly. If you just need a one-off explanation or translation of a word, an ordinary chat is enough.
Frequently asked questions about making Anki cards
9 questions
What is AnkiAI-Cards?
AnkiAI-Cards is a vocabulary card generator for Anki. You enter a word, the app breaks it down by parts of speech and produces a definition, cloze deletions, and three usage examples, then adds the selected cards to the AnkiDroid deck. There's no need to prepare text and import it separately.
Which languages can I study with AnkiAI-Cards?
English, Spanish, French, German, and Russian are available in the settings. The list isn't closed: you can create your own value and specify another language. The language you choose determines the language in which the definitions and examples come back.
Do I have to write the definitions and examples myself?
No — the AI model generates them. For each word, the app returns a definition, a definition with a cloze deletion, and three examples with cloze deletions, all sorted by part of speech. You can accept them as they are or edit them before adding them to the deck.
How do the cards get into Anki?
Directly into AnkiDroid, through its API. On the results screen you tick the cards you want and add them to the chosen deck: the app creates the notes itself, with no file export and no manual import. For this, the AnkiDroid app must be installed on your device.
Can I edit a card before adding it?
Yes. The ticked cards open in the editor, where you can rewrite the definition and examples directly in the text. There you can also select any word or phrase and turn it into an Anki cloze. If you've selected several cards, the editor walks you through them one by one.
What is cloze and how is it placed?
A cloze is a gap in a sentence that Anki turns into a task of recalling the word. The app already places such gaps in the definitions and examples, and in the editor you can add your own: select a word or phrase and tap "cloze selected word".
Can I upload a list of words at once?
No, the app works with one word at a time. You enter one word and get cards for it across all parts of speech; to build a deck from a list, you need to enter the words one by one. There's no bulk upload of text or a list in the app.
Which language level can I choose?
The level is set on the CEFR scale, from A1 to C2. It affects the difficulty of the words in the definitions and examples, but the parts of speech and the card structure stay the same. The level is chosen in the settings and is saved for the following words.
Which AI model does the app use?
The model is chosen in the settings from several AI providers — Google Gemini, OpenAI, and OpenRouter. Your choice affects response speed and the quality of definitions, while the card structure stays the same. You can extend the list of models with your own option.
